Just wanted to let you know/remind you that the DM Quintet featuring :

Are playing at Brighton Jazz Club at the Komedia on Friday the 10^th of July. We would really appreciate your support at this event. It is the band’s debut appearance at the club and we would like you to join us in a evening of good music. Please visit the website to book ticked. The website listing is wrong, originally the gig was going to feature my own quintet but to cut a long story short, it wasn’t possible due to people being away on tour and on holiday. The DM quartet/Quintet play regularly at the Geese in Hanover and we play a variety of re-arranged Bluenote Classics. The 10^th of July set will feature trio numbers as well as quartet/quintet combinations with tributes to Clifford Brown and James Williams. We hope you can make it!!!

Jazz Summer School 2009 will be in Brighton!

Just a quick update to let you know that the annual jazz summer school will be held at Dorothy Stringer School on July 29th-31st. Hi Guys,

Sorry it has been so long since my last update, things have been busy, lots of exciting things to report.

Firstly, the dates for this year's Jazz Summer School will be announced very shortly, it unfortunately isn't taking place at Chichester Uni this year, they have a huge summer conference that got in there just before I did. The good news is that it will take place in Brighton. I'm looking at Dorothy Stringer High School which is looking like a goer, just waiting to hear back about possible dates. It will happen in July this year. Will keep you posted!

My Quintet did it's first gig back in Febrary which went well, it was recorded and I'll be posting various things up on myspace. We are working on a plan of action to get this band more gigs/exposure, it really is a fantastic band and really does deserve to be working a LOT more than it is. We are putting together a demo/press pack which will be available for download directly from this site. Venues/Promotors, please get in contact if you would like to book us!

I've formed a new trio featuring Turin Brakes bassist Eddie Myer and the fantastic Graham Allen on Drums. All original material, stay tuned for free downloads soon!

The DM Quartet still has it's weekly residency at The Geese in Hanover (Southover Street). It is very busy these days, that band now has a myspace which you can check out at: www.myspace.com/dmquartet

Rhythm Section Weekend at Chichester Uni - September 6th-7th!

Hi Guys,

Following the successful summer school in june and due to numerous requests for a weekend course, I am happy to say that I've scheduled one in for the first weekend in September. (6th and 7th).

The course is aimed at all rhythm section players (piano, guitar, bass and drums). It will be a very practical couple of days looking at various areas to do with rhythm section playing: comping, time feels, soloing, intros/endings, trading fours/eights, two piano specific workshops (pianists and non-pianists) and stylstic analysis.

The facilities at Chichester are great, we have 6 Boston Steinway Grands and lots of upright Yams.

Cost is £89.00 per person (not including food or accommadation).

Don't miss out on this great chance to learn about the art of combo playing in a fun and relaxed environment. Reserve your place quickly as places are limited to 6 pianos, 2 guitars and 4 bassists/drummers...

Three Day Jazz Summer School at Chichester University in June!!!

Good News!!!

I can confirm that the Jazz Summer School will run on the Wednesday the 25th of June to Friday the 27th at the University of Chichester from 10am - 4pm daily. There is a limited number of spaces available (15 in total). It is a pilot for a much bigger venture next year. Due to this, we can offer the three days at a bargin price of £119 per person. This does not include food or accomadation, and you will need to make your own arrangements. Its a great chance to play with like minded people and learn a thing or two. I'll post the poster below, please get in contact if you are interested. Places are offered on a first come-first-servce basis. Its open to all abilities and instruments including voice!

The last few weeks have been very busy with new projects and the beginning of term. As from next week, I am teaching at Chichester University on their Performance Module. As well as this exciting news, the duo project I have with Andy Batkin (guitar) have a residency at the Grosnover Casino in Brighton, East Sussex from the 17th of December to the 20th. I also have a solo piano residency there from the 10th to the 14th of December. Our bands want to play in your towns at your events so if you are agents, event organisers or fans and want us to play, please get in contact via the contacts page!
